At dotCanada.com, we provide cPanel hosting which allows you to easily upload files to your website using an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) client. Follow these steps:
Download an FTP Client
o There are many free FTP clients available like FileZilla, WinSCP, or FireFTP
o Download and install your preferred FTP client on your computer
Get Your FTP Login Credentials
o Log into your dotCanada.com account
o Go to the cPanel section
o Under "Files", click on "FTP Accounts"
o Your FTP credentials (hostname, username, password) will be listed here
Connect to Your Website via FTP
o Open your FTP client software
o Enter the hostname (e.g. yourwebsite.com)
o Enter your FTP username and password from cPanel
Navigate to the Correct Directory
o Once connected, you'll see files/folders on the remote server (right pane)
o Navigate to the directory you want to upload files to (e.g. public_html)
Upload Files/Folders
o On the local pane (left), select the files/folders you want to upload
o Right-click and choose "Upload" to transfer them to the server
Tips:
• Use the "mkdir" command to create new directories on the server
• Set file permissions appropriately after uploading (e.g. 644 for files, 755 for directories)
• Be careful not to overwrite existing files unintentionally
